I feel stupid about asking this, but I’m still wondering what happened to Kolei’s “cyborg eye.” .___. You know, the red one? Was it modified due to the Pinocchio Project or something?

Mayshing will have to confirm but I believe yes.

The idea of the Pinocchio Project is for them to regain/hold onto their humanity. That is why they get fake stomachs installed and other fake organs, to be more like their original human bodies and help their brains/over all habits. To fully reflect the human side Ko was forced to get a normal eye instead of this mostly/half robotic look.

He was starting to look more robotic and acted like it, which is why it was vital he have more of a human appearance; he was at risk. That’s part of Angel’s theory for Cyborg Depression, people feel more robotic than human and they just shut down because they can no longer logically continue human habits when their cyborg bodies don’t need it. They’re mentally torn as to what they are and you figure their brain freaks out with all the neural links messed up/missing. This is a theory though since they still don’t know the cause within the story itself/there are theories. We know Lien got it when he felt completely like a machine and lost all personal control over his thoughts and actions. He just snapped from the pressure and his brain waves went crazy. (We still don’t know what in real life people go comatose or get selectively mute)

Haha, long answer. But yeah, otherwise he’d most definitely still have his creepy cybernetic eye. (His whole goal was to be unreadable and intimidating so people wouldn’t challenge him and be off guard. That’s why he doesn’t like having facial expressions, people can read his emotions and he’s a private person.)
